If your work appears on my blog and you do not wish so, please ask to have it removed. (DeviantArt users should be aware that if they do not change the setting of their 'Sharing Options' then they are actively encouraging sharing on tumblr. I will be happy to remove your work at your request and I will be happy to provide guidance in changing this setting to avoid future incident.)
Color Placement by Wægen
Eight of the practically infinite ways to paint a single fractal. The images in this gif are all the same, unchanged fractal as painted using the same, unchanged color gradient set. The only change from image to image is the assignment of the colors to particular values (like randomizing the numbers in a paint-by-numbers kit).
This gif does not represent the possible variations to a color gradient set, nor the multitude of standard color processing controls such as hue, saturation, contrast, &c. Include pre and post processing options, and it becomes clear why I spend such a disproportionate amount of time manipulating color relative to constructing the fractal to be colored.
I generally start with a color gradient that I feel would look nice, then wander around variations of the gradient until I find one that will draw out the balance of detail I hope to achieve. I then adjust the processing options to get close to what I want, render, and post process to bring out the final image I hope to achieve.
